Getting to CBSE from the base of campus

To get to the UCSC campus, see the driving directions or air travel information below.

tan box  Just after you cross High Street, Bay Street becomes Coolidge Drive.
tan box  You may get a parking permit at the red kiosk immediately on the right, or you can use the pay spaces on campus.
tan box  Continue up the hill on Coolidge Drive.
tan box  Turn left onto Hagar Drive (the second light).
tan box  Continue on Hagar until it terminates at McLaughlin Drive.
tan box  Turn left onto McLaughlin.

If you have a parking permit:

tan box  Go to Hellar Drive and turn right.
tan box  Turn right into the first driveway and bear left up the hill.
tan box  Park in the lot, which is behind the Engineering 2 building.
tan box  Take the stairs or the elevator in the Engineering 2 building to the 5th floor.
tan box  Go to suite 501.

If you do not have a parking permit or if the Engineering 2 lot is full:

tan box  Go to Hellar Drive and turn left.
tan box  Turn left into the Core West parking garage, and look for the pay spaces.
tan box  Walk across McLaughlin drive. Go through the Baskin Engineering Building to the Engineering 2 Building.
tan box  Take the stairs or the elevator to the 5th floor.
tan box  Go to suite 501.

Driving to UCSC

There are three main driving approaches to Santa Cruz: Highway 1 or Highway 17 from the north and Highway 1 from the south.

Getting to the UC Santa Cruz campus from the North via Highway 1:

tan box  When you enter Santa Cruz from the north, Highway 1 becomes Mission Street and begins to have traffic signals.
tan box  At the third traffic signal, turn left on Bay Street.
tan box  Take Bay Street all the way to the main entrance to campus.

Getting to the UC Santa Cruz campus from the north via Highway 17:

tan box  Take Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz.
tan box  Take the exit for Highway 1 north toward UCSC and Half Moon Bay.
tan box  At the second traffic light, turn right on Mission Street (an extension of Highway 1 North).
tan box  Go through several traffic signals to Bay Street.
tan box  Turn right on Bay Street and take it all the way to the main entrance to campus.

Getting to the UC Santa Cruz campus from the south via Highway 1:

tan box  Take Highway 1 north toward UCSC and Half Moon Bay.
tan box  Once you are in Santa Cruz, the freeway becomes a highway. At the second traffic light, turn right on Mission Street (an extension of Highway 1 North).
tan box  Go through several traffic signals to Bay Street.
tan box  Turn right on Bay Street and take it all the way to the main entrance to campus.

 

Travel by air

There are three airports in the area. The closest is the San Jose Airport, approximately 45 miles away. The San Francisco Airport and the Oakland Airport are about 75 miles away. For ground transportation from either airport you can rent a car, take the bus, or ride a shuttle. (Oakland Airport shuttle services are Bay Area Airporter and Early Bird Shuttle) .

Getting to the UC Santa Cruz campus from the San Francisco Airport:

The scenic coast route:

tan box  Take Interstate 380 west to 280 south.
tan box  Take 280 south to 92 west.
tan box  Take 92 west to the coast and turn left (south) on Highway 1.
tan box  Take Highway 1 to Santa Cruz.
tan box  When you enter Santa Cruz, Highway 1 becomes Mission Street and begins to have traffic signals.
tan box  At the third traffic signal, turn left on Bay Street.
tan box  Take Bay Street all the way to the main entrance to campus.

tan box  380 west to 280 south to 85 south to 17 south (see directions from San Jose Airport)
tan box  380 west to 280 south to 17 south (see directions from San Jose Airport)
tan box  101 south to 92 west to 1 south

Getting to the UC Santa Cruz campus from the Oakland Airport:

tan box  Take Interstate 880 south to Santa Cruz (it becomes Highway 17 in Los Gatos).

One popular place to stay is the beach-front hotel, The Coast Santa Cruz Hotel, 175 West Cliff Drive (831) 426-4330; reservations (800) 716-6199. If you stay at the Coast Santa Cruz Hotel, you get to campus by taking Bay Street, which is the road that heads away from the bay right by the hotel.
