David Haussler named 2001 Scientist of the Year by R&D Magazine

David Haussler, professor of computer science at UCSC and an investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, has been named Scientist of the Year by R&D Magazine. Haussler is known for his work on the Human Genome Project and for his research in the field of bioinformatics. Haussler's essay "The Challenge of Bioinformatics" appears in the November issue of the magazine. Previous recipients of this award include Craig Venter, president of Celera Genomics, and Leroy Hood, inventor of the automated DNA sequencer.
Haussler has also joined Mary-Claire King, Eric Lander, David Botstein, Gerald Rubin, Walter Gilbert, Charles Cantor, Nina Bissell, and George Poste as a Featured Scientist in Incyte's "Inside Genomics" series.  MORE... Haussler essay "The Challenge of Bioinformatics"
