Haussler, Kliger elected as AAAS Fellows

David Haussler and David Kliger have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Haussler was honored for his pioneering work on the assembly and analysis of the human genome and for the development of statistical algorithms for bioinformatics and other fields. Kliger, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, and dean of the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences, was recognized for his distinguished contributions to the study of dynamic changes in protein and chromophore interactions with light and also for his contributions to senior administration in science. Each year the AAAS Council elects members whose "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished."
