Biomolecular engineering faculty member Joshua M. Stuart engages in research that elucidates gene function on a global scale. In research published today in Science, Stuart identified pairs of genes that are coexpressed over 3182 microarrays from humans, flies, worms, and yeast.

The research uncovered 22,163 coexpression links that have been conserved across evolution. The relationships implied by these links offer new insights into ancient and newly evolved pathways.

The results of this study are available to the research community as a resource, allowing investigators studying a particular gene to discover other, functionally related genes.
